Capital Sins (Vices)
1. Resentment (anger)
2. Pride (I am the most loving)
3. Deceit*
4. Envy (mostly envy of other’s sense of belonging and happiness)
5. Avarice (Greedy for information – over-perceivers)
6. Fear* (Anxiety)
7. Gluttony (for fun, experience, pleasure)
8. Lust (passion, everything is 120%)
9. Sloth (laziness, cynicism – jack of all trades, master of none)
Virtues
1. Serenity (can let go of resentment)
2. Humility (overcome needing to appear loving/needed)
3. Truth (can be healed of their own deceit)
4. Equanimity (finding a midpoint – even-souledness)
5. Detachment (observing reality)
6. Courage
7. Joy (love the color ‘orange’ for its energy)
8. Innocence (open-heartedness w/o cynicism, passion for good, lust for life)
9. Decisive Action (initial withdraw produces clarity that leads to action)
*Deceit (3) and Fear (6) were the two sins the Desert Fathers missed. The ideas is that
we cannot see our own sin/shadow. In a superpower (like Rome) deceit (self-deceit
most of all, as in “we are the greatest ever”) and fear (we can protect you, the ‘Pax
Romana’), are the core sins that hold up the system. Since they were immersed in
Empire, they could not identify these two initially.
